Situated at the southern tip of Spain, the Costa del Sol is favoured with a singularly pleasant and equable climate. With an average 300 days of sunshine a year, long dry summers and cool moist winters, you would be hard put to find better conditions anywhere in Europe. La Concha Mountain, towering 1,000 metres above Marbella and the surrounding landscape, is both a famous landmark and the centre point of the majestic mountain range that protects the region from temperature extremes.
The gentle breezes that blow in from the sea and are so refreshing in summer also form part of this microclimate that creates a garden landscape, covered in the bright colours of lush subtropi cal vegetation. Sweeping gently down from the foothills of the Sierra Blanca mountains to the shores of the Mediterranean lies Marbella, a white pearl in a sea of greenery framed by the deep blue of the sky and the azure sea. |

All of this has combined to make this region one of the most sought after spots in Europe, but it is not just the climate and beauty of its setting that draws so many people to this part of Spain. So the question remains: what does it have that makes it so irresistible?
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
With sun, sea, mountains, culture, sports activities and plenty of entertainment on offer getting bored is hard to do. Golf, currently the largest single drawing card and the fastest growing sector, is catered for by over 40 excellent golf courses and a year-round playing season, not to mention a host of driving ranges, academies and specialised shops. Tennis and squash players will find the facilities excellent at the many health and racket clubs in town, but it is of course in water sports that the Costa del Sol excels, be it sailing, power-boating, windsurfing, jet-ski, water-ski or scuba diving. For those who tire easily of the beach there are four-wheel drive safaris into the countryside or routes that take one through the white villages |

be racing down the piste of the Sierra Nevada within the same amount of time. |

Another important ingredient of the Costa del Sol's success is its bustling social life. Naturally there is no shortage of restaurants, bars and nightlife, but foreign residents also enjoy a comfortable ex-pat lifestyle and a social scene enriched by the cosmopolitan make-up of its population.
It is the mix of these factors, coupled with the excellent properties available, which gives the Costa del Sol its character and the upper hand over many competing areas around the world.
